American Idol Results Recap: The Top 10 Finalists Revealed

March 15, 2012 06:01 PM by Lisa Princ

Last night on FOX‘s American Idol we watched as the top 12 were reduced to 11, after Jermaine Jones was let go for hiding his outstanding warrants from the producers. Then, the top 11 finalists took the stage for performances of songs from their birth year. Who was sent packing tonight, and who made the top 10? Read on to find out!

American Idol kicked off the results show tonight as Jennifer Lopez announced that her new song and video will be out on March 29, 2012 and then, Tommy Hilfiger gave us an introduction to how he has been styling the finalists. After the Ford music video, Ryan Seacrest called Phillip Phillips, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, and Joshua Ledet to review their performances and get to some results. Joshua Ledet was sent to safety first, followed by Phillip Phillips and Skylar Laine, all of whom made the top 10. Elise Testone was in the bottom three, which is not surprising as she was there last week also.

Demi Lovato was up next with her newest single Give Your Heart A Break, and then it was time for more results. Colton Dixon, Deandre Brackensick, Jessica Sanchez, and Shannon Magrane to the stage, and Jimmy Iovine revealed that he thought that Deandre could be in trouble this week. America did not agree with Jimmy though, as Deandre Brackensick, Jessica Sanchez, and Colton Dixon all made the top ten. That meant Shannon Magrane was in the bottom three and we were left wondering why the girls are always in the bottom? Both ladies did great last night, so it was very disappointing to have two of them in the bottom tonight.

Next on American Idol was the performance that we all wanted to see – Chris Daughtry! Chris Daughtry and the guys rocked out their newest single Outta My Head, and it was awesome. Next, HeeJun Han, Hollie Cavanagh, and Erika Van Pelt were up to find out their fate. Both Hollie Cavanagh and HeeJun Han were sent off to the safety of the top 10. The judges expressed their disapproval of Elise being in the bottom, and then Ryan Seacrest sent Elise Testone to safety. Does anyone else see the same pattern as last season here?

With both Shannon Magrane and Erika Van Pelt left in the bottom, Ryan Seacrest revealed that Erika Van Pelt was going to the top ten, leaving Shannon Magrane with the lowest number of votes this week. Shannon was given one more chance to sing for her life and give the judges the chance to save her. Randy Jackson informed Shannon that they would not be saving her, so Shannon Magrane was heading home!
