The second season of Face Off, which just wrapped with Rayce Bird winning the grand prize, was such a smash success that SyFy is ramping up production on the third installment. Season three of the hit reality show will return with 10 episodes this summer, featuring a new group of rising special effects makeup artists. Read on for more information!
Deadlines for those applying to compete in season three were due on February 22. The application, which is still posted online, says taping will take place “from approximately April 24, 2012 through June 22, 2012 (Dates are subject to change).” The application also states that final interviews were held from March 4 through March 9. The required age to apply was 18.
When season two premiered on January 11, it shattered all records of the first installment with 2.5 million total viewers. After just four episodes, the show was averaging 56 percent more viewers than season one. For those of you who don’t know, Face Off is a competition/elimination series exploring the world of special effects makeup artists and the unlimited imagination that allows them to create amazing works of living art.
I’m stoked the show is coming back so quickly because I think it’s one of the coolest reality shows on television. Each one hour episode is filled with gobs of creativity, movie magic and drama. It forces the competitors to find new ways to create amazing works of art within short periods of time, often in situations they’re not familiar with — hello, nude body painting. It really does showcase some extremely talented (and dramatic) people.
Will you be watching Face Off when it returns this summer? What changes would you like them to make? Do you think Rayce was the rightful winner of season two? Sound off and leave a comment below!
