The popular reality TV competition Celebrity Apprentice has certainly had its fair share of drama during the 2012 season. It’s now down to 12 business-savvy celebrity contestants all competing to raise money and awareness for their charity. The last person standing will be hired as the Celebrity Apprentice and have the honor of delivering a $250,000 bonus check to their charity. Keep reading to meet NBC contestant Dayana Mendoza!
This season’s cast includes Aubrey O’Day, Arsenio Hall, Clay Aiken, Dayana Mendoza, Debbie Gibson, Dee Snider, Lisa Lampanelli, Lou Ferrigno, Patricia Velasquez, Paul Teutul Sr., Penn Jillette and Teresa Giudice.
Mendoza was born in Caracas. She shared a two-room home with her mother, father, uncle, grandmother and younger sister. At age 13, she was discovered at a local bus stop. Since then, her modeling career has afforded her the opportunity to travel the world! She has visited Italy, Germany, France, Athens, Spain and New York City.
In 2008 in Nha Trang, Vietnam, Mendoza was crowned Miss Universe. Before that, she was Miss Venezuela where she was an advocate for increasing HIV/AIDS awareness by focusing on women’s health and reproductive issues. As a spokesperson for Population Services International’s (PSI) “Not All Men Are Created Equal” campaign, she went to Managua, Nicaragua where she spent time in hospitals and mobile units where people living with HIV/AIDS received treatments.
Mendoza now lives in the Big Apple and speaks three languages–Spanish, English and Italian. Currently, she is taking interior design classes.
Celebrity Apprentice airs Sundays on NBC at 9/8c.
