Dancing With The Stars Recap: Rock Week With KISS

April 09, 2012 07:06 PM by Candace Young

Last week the competition was intense on ABC‘s Dancing With The Stars, but in the end it was soap opera heartthrob, Jack Wagner, who saw his quest for the Mirror Ball Trophy come to an end. Tonight, it’s Rock Week, and the hardcore fun begins with a live performance by Gene Simmons‘ band, KISS! Keep reading for highlights from tonight’s dances and scores…

KISS kicks off the show rocking the stage in full make-up! Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli wave scores of ’11′ afterward as the crowd comes to its feet! Brooke Burke Charvet and Tom Bergeron, both dressed in black, introduce the remaining couples, who are almost all in heavy metal-inspired costumes – hot!

Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy are doing the tango to Quiet Riot tonight! It’s quite a sight to see Sherri in her goth costume and the dance is pretty moody and intense. Sherri seems to be concentrating a lot.  Len tells her it didn’t suit her bubbly personality, but she did the best she could with it. Bruno says she needed sharper movements. Carrie Ann says it was good, but Sherri was expressionless. All three judges award ’7′s, for a total of ‘21‘.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas achieved the highest scores of the season last week. This week they will do the pasa doble. Katherine wears a sleek black catsuit for the aggressive ‘badass’ routine. They look good, but Katherine seems just slightly off at times. Bruno thought she unleashed her fury, but it wasn’t as clean as a pasa doble should be. Carrie Ann agrees; she kept adjusting her feet tonight. Len says it had promise, but didn’t quite deliver. All three judges award ’8′s, for a total of ‘24‘.

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson are doing a tango to a Rolling Stones tune. Shockingly, Jaleel claims never to have heard of the band or lead singer Mick Jagger! They perform their routine and seem to have fun, but the movements are fluid as opposed to sharp. Carrie Ann loved it! Len says it needed more attack and aggression, but notes that the performance aspect was great. Bruno agrees – the drive and stalking quality must be in more than just the face. Carrie Ann gives them an ’8′, and Len and Bruno award ’7′s, for a total of ‘22‘.

Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy are doing a pasa doble to a song that brings bullfighting to mind. Melissa holds her own. Len liked it! He said she came out and attacked it. Bruno loved the drama and flavor of Spain, but notes Maks’ slip at the end. Carrie Ann thought it was Melissa’s best performance by far – they looked stunning together! She does advise Melissa that it looks like she’s holding on to Maks for dear life sometimes. Carrie Ann and Bruno award ’7′s and Len gives an ’8′, for a total of ‘22‘.

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd are up next with a pasa doble. Donald is hilarious in practice wearing Peta’s granny sweater. Donald appears shirtless and delivers an amazing routine with Peta to Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze! Bruno raves about Donald’s sculpted strength – wonderful! Carrie Ann yells that it was sexy, raunchy, and hot damn! Len says no one can accuse Donald of holding back – without doubt his best dance! All three judges award ’9′s, for a total of ‘27‘!

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus will attempt to unleash her inner Tina Turner with their tango.  Gladys goes full out to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, but again it’s not that sharp. Carrie Ann says it was ambitious, but didn’t quite come together the way she hoped. Len compliments Tristan on the choreography and says it needed to be a bit more crisp. Bruno says she has grace and style, but it was a difficult song to dance to.  Carrie Ann and Bruno award ’7′s and Len gives a ’6′, for a total of ‘20‘.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke are up next. William gets a visit from two member of the band Steel Panther to help educate him on hair metal. William and Cheryl do a jive to We’re Not Gonna’ Take It by Twisted Sister. William’s butt shaking gets a response from the crowd and the dance is fun, but the timing seemed off once or twice. Len points out that they were out of sync and warns William that he has to nail it. Bruno loves his talent and performance, but agrees it wasn’t as good as it could have been. Carrie Ann says more of the same – he needs to nail his routine. Carrie Ann and Len give ’7′s and Bruno awards an ’8′, for a total of ‘22‘.

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower will tackle the Viennese waltz tonight on Dancing With The Stars. Roshon and Chelsie deliver a flowing and elegant performance to This Is The Time Of My Life.  Bruno raves about the beautiful flowing lines and how Roshon extends his arms. Carrie Ann gushes that it was like the climax of a Disney movie and tells Roshon he’s the best dancer of the men! Len husks, “Good job, dawg,” which is what Roshon wanted to hear! Carrie Ann and Bruno award ’9′s and Len gives them an ’8′, for a total of ‘26‘.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough are doing the tango tonight. Maria learned she had a stress fracture in her foot and was warned by a doctor, but still opted to continue. Mark is sporting a mohawk and Maria an edgy black gown as they dance to School’s Out by Alice Cooper. Carrie Ann says they have incredible chemistry! Len notes a loss of some control, but compliments Maria’s hold. He says it was pretty good, but not right up there. Bruno liked the staccato action – especially with her foot issues. Carrie Ann and Bruno award ’9′s and Len gives them an ’8′, for a total of ‘26‘.

Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff perform last on Dancing With The Stars tonight. They are doing the tango to Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. It’s pretty goth and dramatic – interesting to watch! Len says he liked it! He tells him it had flair, but he leaned forward too much. Bruno agrees his frame was bad. Carrie Ann felt like she was watching Johnny Depp – Gavin was so in character! She compliments the intention behind every move. Carrie Ann and Len give ’8′s and Bruno gives a ’7′, for a total of ‘23‘.

Which performance was the best? KISS or the dancers’?
