Last week on ABC‘s Dancing With The Stars, Sherri Shepherd said goodbye to the competition. This week, the stakes are higher with the introduction of the Dance Duel, in which the bottom two couples will face-off in a bid to stave off elimination. Santana performs for Latin Week. Keep reading for highlights…
Jaleel White and Kym Johnson are up first, dancing the samba. There are actual flames on stage and Rhythm Is Gonna Get You gets the excitement up for the Latin flavor. Their dance is pretty hot, and Jaleel’s hip shaking is eye-opening. The crowd’s happy. Len talks about how Jaleel’s bum was going (told ya’!), and Bruno says the party’s started. Brooke Burke Charvet talks to the couple, and Jaleel jokes that he went for a spray tan with Maks, who came out a little darker – hilarious! They net a score of ’24′, with ’8′ from each judge.
Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy are dancing tonight despite her concussion and whiplash last week. In practice, she’s in a neck brace and has trouble opening up sexually. Maks calls her ‘grandma’. This could be a disaster. Dancing live, Maks looks Cuban yummy in a bright pink shirt and white pants. Melissa is giving it her all, but still suffers stumble-y moments where it looks like she’s hanging onto Maks for dear life. The judges note that lack of control, but agree Melissa looked beautiful and has gained confidence. It’s ’7′s all-around for ’21′ in total.
Maria Menounos and Derek Hough have faced down Maria’s previous injuries, and this week, she fell on her face in practice! She takes a licking and keeps on ticking – tonight they’re tackling the salsa. They kick things off dancing with audience members. Love that it’s a Ricky Martin tune! They’re great – but it seemed like more tricks than salsa dancing. Partway through, Derek doffs his shirt – he’s no Maks, but some like it. The talk is all about the kiss they shared in the middle of the dance. Bruno wants to join them for a threesome! They score ’27′, with a ’9′ from each judge!
Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas are doing the Argentine tango tonight. After their scare in the bottom last week, Mark’s being tough in practice, though not so much so when she inadvertently kicks him in the jewels! Their routine has a 1940′s look and flair. Each week Katherine’s elegance and beauty stands out – tonight’s no exception. The dance is riveting and romantic – swoon time! Len, Bruno, and Carrie Ann all gush – the word ‘perfection’ is used twice! Accordingly, they get two ’10′s and a ’9′, for ’29′!
Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff had their best week ever last time and want to keep the momentum going for their samba. I’m expecting Gavin to be out of his comfort zone, and he is, but he lets himself go and it’s fun to watch! Len dubs it a ‘shamba’, but the judges all appreciate the effort and say they enjoyed it. They net ’19′.
William Levy and Cheryl Burke should be shoo-ins for Latin week given that William is Cuban, but he is sporting an ankle injury and also recovering from being in the bottom last time around. It would be embarrassing for a Latino to go home on Latin Week, so let’s hope he brings it. From the word ‘go’, William does his roots proud! Wow! Their tango is sensual and smokin’ hot! Bruno growls word such as ‘pulsating’ and ‘throbbing’ – whatever he’s talking about, I agree! They get ’29′!
Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus are doing their Latin dance to Fever. Gladys’ dress is distracting – it’s green and looks like a Christmas tree. In any case, Gladys certainly has rhythm, but oddly, seems as though she’s out there on her own at times – there’s not much connection between her and Tristan. The judges remark on her stage presence and Carrie Ann mentions a few mistakes. They take away ’22′ points.
Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower strive to tap into his inner sex symbol for the Latin dance . He needs to come across as a man’s man. Yes, Roshon’s after some William Levy mojo and goes to him for pointers. Oh, poor little Disney boy. While he doesn’t really make it into ‘man’ territory, it doesn’t matter – his dancing is sensational! He makes a few distractingly goofy faces, but his attack is insane and it’s entertaining! Bruno enthuses that he’s wired for salsa! Wired is right! They score ’26′.
Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd are up last with their Argentine tango tonight on Dancing With The Stars. Will it be as hot as William’s? Yes, it will! It’s spicy, intense, and bold – sizzling! The lifts, as Len opines, are spectacular. They get a ’10′ from Carrie Ann, but Donald is seriously disappointed by Len’s ’8′ – they wind up with ’27′ overall.
Results are tomorrow night – with the Dance Duel – and next week is Motown – cool!
