In tonight’s episode of NBC’s new reality TV series, Fashion Star, the fashion designers step out of their boxes to expand their brands. The remaining clothiers must design new collections to show the mentors and buyers. Keep reading to find out which designer is eliminated from the competition!
The 9 designers include Orly Shani, Nikki Poulos, Barbara Bates, Ross Bennett, Sarah Parrott, Ronnie Escalante, Luciana Scarabello, Nzimiro Oputa and Kara Laricks.
The three mentors are Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos. The buyers are Nicole Christie from H&M, Terron Schaefer from Saks Fifth Avenue and Caprice Willard from Macy’s.
The competition is fierce with all of the clothiers hoping to make it until the end. Host Elle Macpherson announces that this week, the designers are challenged to step out of their comfort zone and design something fresh and new to present to the buyers. If the buyers want to purchase the collection then the designers’ creations will be sold in their stores and on-line along with earning a spot in the competition moving forward. But, for those who do not make a deal–they’re at risk for elimination.
This week, Ross Bennett decides to design vintage-inspired lingerie after Nicole Richie tells him to design for strippers! Meanwhile, Luciana Scarabello creates trendy cropped jackets. H&M offers $50,000 for Ross’ lingerie and Luciana gets a $100,000 offer from Macy’s.
To step out of her comfort zone, Sarah Parrott decides to make bikinis. Nzimiro Oputa really steps out of his comfort zone telling viewers he struggles with designing dresses for women because their bodies are weird to him. He makes layered wrap dresses. Sarah doesn’t get an offer but Nzimiro receives a $50,000 bid from H&M.
Next Barbara Bates creates Boho dresses; Ronnie Escalante makes one-piece swimsuits with mesh and Nikki Poulos makes retro tailored men’s clothes. Barbara doesn’t get an offer and reminds the buyers she is a breast cancer survivor but still no go. Nikki also doesn’t get an offer but Ronnie makes a sale to Macy’s for $50,000.
Finally, Orly Shani chooses to makes “confederate” jackets that unbutton and unzip to create another look–sound familiar? It’s one of her specialties which lead some to question whether or not she really stepped out of her comfort zone this week. Kara Laricks creates bright colored layered dresses. Orly doesn’t get an offer this week but Kara gets a bid for $100,000 from Saks Fifth Avenue.
The designers who didn’t make sales face the possibility of elimination. The designers in the bottom four are Nikki, Barbara, Orly and Sarah. After talking it over, the mentors decide to save Nikki Poulos. The designers in the bottom three now face the buyers one last time. After deliberating, thebuyers decide to eliminate Barbara Bates.
