Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins might not have been well known in the United States a couple of months ago, but we have a feeling her popularity has begun to skyrocket with her appearance on Dancing with the Stars. Jenkins, who is paired with pro dancer Mark Ballas this season, was recently spotted out wearing the hottest print of the season – plaid! Find out how you can copy her chic celebrity style.
Jenkins is often seen on stage performing in long elaborate gowns, however she was recently spotted in a chic short plaid dress paired with opaque black tights and heels. Unlike the 90’s “grunge era” when plaid was last popular, this year plaid has branched out from flannel shirts and was spotted on feminine dresses, skirts, outerwear and even pants!
Copy Jenkins’ chic look in this Goji plaid dress ($89.95) from Anthropologie, which features a flattering front panel to instantly slim your waist. Another chic option is this Plaid Strapless Dress (on sale for $19.99) from The Limited. This dress has a hint of sheen making it the perfect party dress.
Pair your dress with opaque tights, such as the HUE Super Control Top Opaque Tights in black solid from Macy’s ($13.50). Black platform heels create a seamless line from your leg down, instantly slimming and lengthening your legs. One great option is the Fergie Myth platform heel in black satin fabric ($64.99) from Zappos.
The singer keeps her nails short and finishes off her glam look with a deep plum nail polish, such as Essie nail polish in “luxedo” or “velvet voyage.”
With her makeup, Jenkins keeps the focus on her eyes with sexy and seductive cat eyes. Liquid eyeliner is fine for makeup pros, but most of us amateurs will do better with cream eyeliners, such as the Stila Smudge Pot. Using an eyeliner brush with stiff bristles, place the brush near the outer corner of your lash line and flick it towards the outside to create a small wing. Lightly line the rest of your eyelash, nothing that the cat eye should be thin near the inner corners and getting thicker as it goes out. For an expert look, keep the brush close to the lash line to avoid any space between your eyelash and eyelid.
For the bottom lash, you can leave it bare or, for a dramatic look, repeat the process above, merging it with the top wing. Lastly, use an eyelash curler to open up your eyes and apply a lash thickening mascara, such as Cover Girl LashBlash Fusion Mascara (drugstores, $7.19).
