First American Idol, now The Voice…. What’s a fan to do when your favorite reality show goes rogue and changes the rules on you? From “saves” to “instant eliminations,” viewers are getting fed up with the powers that be and their influence over competitions that networks like FOX and NBC say are decided by America’s votes. Still steaming over the elimination of frontrunner Jesse Campbell, loyal
former viewers of The Voice are taking to the web, hoping to have their voices heard by petitioning for the producers to bring him back on the show. What’s their argument?
“Despite positioning the show after the Battle Rounds as a show to be voted on by the ‘voting public,’ the switch to an ‘instant elimination’ in Monday’s show format came as a shock that was likely to serve executive producers, the judges — but certainly not loyal viewers,” the Change.org petition reads, with one of the 1,000+ people singing adding that Jesse Campbell should get another chance “because America would never have eliminated him tonight! If ever!”
Maybe they can have Randy Jackson help out in their effort by giving Christina Aguilera one of his “vote for the best” lectures!
In defense of the show (someone has to do it), yes, viewers are given the opportunity to vote, but it’s all about the artist that the coach wants to have competing for them in the finale, unlike Idol.
Though it’s unlikely that NBC will allow him to come back into the competition at this point (and less likely that Jesse would even want to), we wouldn’t be surprised if the fan fave returns to perform in the show’s finale on May 8th. Fingers crossed!
