Yesterday, we learned the tragic news of the passing of Dick Clark, and last night on American Idol, the American icon was honored. During the show, Ryan Seacrest made it clear that shows like Idol would not even exist without Dick Clark. After the show, Ryan went on to gush about his idol, friend, and mentor. Read on to hear what else Ryan Seacrest had to say about the legendary Dick Clark!
Dick Clark’s death shocked the nation yesterday, although at 82, we knew it would be coming, but fans hoped the legendary icon would live for many more years. One fan in particular, Ryan Seacrest, has taken Dick Clark’s passing very hard, as Dick Clark was so much more than just a friend to Ryan. “This is a tremendously emotional day for so many people – fans of music, fans of television, broadcasters and certainly me personally, as Dick Clark was one of those incredible pioneers of our business,” Seacrest said after the show.
Not only was Dick Clark a friend to Ryan Seacrest, but also his mentor: “He taught me how to do television. I studied him as a kid, and I had the fortunate opportunity to work with him for several years on New Year’s Eve. And so I am sad and I am grateful for what he has given us, and certainly what he has given me.” Seacrest went on to say that he will miss Dick Clark tremendously, adding that, “there was no one like him.”
If you are all wondering who will take over New Year’s Eve this year, we think it’s a no-brainer! Or perhaps Dick Clark’s passing is a sign that there won’t be a new year? In any event, it’s kind of ironic that Ryan Seacrest feels there is no one like Dick Clark – has he looked in the mirror lately? He certainly is the closest thing to Dick Clark that we’ll see again!
