The remaining designers create their brands on tonight’s episode of Fashion Star on NBC. One of the mentors showcases their collection on the runway during the reality TV series. The fashion designers take direction from the mentors who help them decide on a brand campaign for their collections. What designer scores a major hit and who will be eliminated? Keep reading to find out!
The seven remaining designers include Orly Shani, Nikki Poulos, Ross Bennett, Ronnie Escalante, Luciana Scarabello, Nzimiro Oputa and Kara Laricks.
Host Elle Macpherson explains that if the buyers want to purchase the collection then the designers’ creations will be sold in their stores and on-line along with earning a spot in the competition moving forward. But, for those who do not make a deal–they’re at risk for elimination.
The three mentors are Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos. The buyers are Nicole Christie from H&M, Terron Schaefer from Saks Fifth Avenue and Caprice Willard from Macy’s.
The first designers to show their looks are Kara Laricks and Nzimiro Oputa. Kara says she wants to “create a genderless world for my customers” with her tuxedo shirts. Nzimiro’s collection offers a layered look topped off with a cardigan. Mentor, Simpson said that his designs “knocked my panties off!” Nzimiro gets a $100,000 bid from Macy’s while Kara gets an $80,000 bid from Saks Fifth Avenue. Both made sales and both are safe!
Next, Nikki Poulos shows her maxi inspired dress while Luciana Scarabello sends her cutout dress down the runway. While selecting pictures for her campaign, Nikki is very disappointed with the photo shoot and asks the graphic designer to use a head shot of her model and he starts laughing because of the irony–it’s a fashion show and she doesn’t want to include her fashion design! After the runway show the mentors call Nikki out on her bad decision–could this be the end of the line for Nikki? The buyers chose not to make an offer for Nikki’s designs but Luciana gets a $50,000 bid from Saks Fifth Avenue.
The final three designers are Ross Bennett, who designs hunting jackets; Ronnie Escalante, who makes open back dresses; and Orly Shani who creates motorcycle dresses and vests. Neither Ross nor Orly receives an offer. Ronnie gets a $50,000 offer from H&M.
The designers who didn’t make sales now face the possibility of elimination. The designers in the bottom three are Nikki, Ross and Orly. After talking it over, the mentors are at a stalemate and turn the decision over to the buyers! This is a first! The buyers decide to send home Ross Bennett saying he is not their Fashion Star.
