Lionel Richie Drops Out Of ABC’s ‘Duets’

May 01, 2012 09:00 AM by Shayla Perry

That was fast! ABC‘s new reality competition, Duets, hasn’t even premiered, and already there’s been a major change in the casting department. E! News confirms that the incomparable Lionel Richie will no longer be a part of the show due to scheduling conflicts, but has already been replaced with a “legend” in his own right? Who is it?

According to a press release issued by ABC, R&B singer John Legend has been given the “Green Light” to take Lionel Richie’s place.

“I’m thrilled to be part of Duets and I’m looking forward to finding an undiscovered gem out there,” says Legend. “This is going to be a lot of fun.”

Legend will be joining American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson, her fellow Voice mentor Robin Thicke, and Country star Jennifer Nettles as they search the nation looking for artists who will perform with them on stage.

“The concept of Duets is so fresh because its mentoring is active and participatory,” said Nettles, with Thicke adding, “The format is unlike anything that’s out there right now, and the opportunity to work with such talent, both the other artists and contestants, is definitely going to make for an exciting competition.”

We can’t wait!

Duets is set to premiere May 24 on ABC.
