“Four celebrities… Blind Auditions… Spinning Chairs… But it’s not what you think.” If you saw this promo during last night’s episode of American Idol, your first thought was probably, ‘Oh, no! Not more spinning chairs.’ Followed by, ‘WTH?!’ What are the people at FOX up to now? Yes, it sounds a lot like NBC‘s hit singing competition, The Voice, but as it turns out, the spot was actually for a new dating show premiering this summer called (wait for it…) The Choice. So much for originality. Keep reading for all the details.
You knew it wouldn’t be long before another network found a way to incorporate those darn spinning chairs into a new reality show.
What we didn’t expect was that it would be for a dating show!
“We wanted to put a new spin on the dating game show that gives celebrities THE CHOICE of a lifetime and the chance to prove you really shouldn’t judge a book by its cover,” says Mike Darnell of FOX.
So how does it work?
Hosted by Cat Deeley and filmed in front of a live audience, each episode of The Choice will begin with a “Blind Round,” with “four of the world’s most eligible bachelors” in rotating chairs as they listen to sexy singles sharing their passions, turn-ons, turn-offs, etc.
If a bachelor likes what he hears, he pulls his “love handle” (we swear we’re not making this stuff up) to turn his chair around and meet his potential mate face-to-face. And yes, just like The Voice, if more than one bachelor picks the same contestant, the decision is then up to her.
Each bachelor will select three women before entering the “Speed Choice” round, where the ladies have only a few seconds to convince their bachelor that she should move on to the next phase of the competition.
At that time, Cat will pose a challenge question to the two remaining women on each team. The bachelor will then make “the choice” between the two of them, taking one on a dream date.
And yes, there will be at least one episode where famous bacheloretteswill be searching for love.
Celebrities participating in the the new show have yet to be announced, (we’re sure Jennifer Love Hewitt is game!), but The Choice is scheduled to premiere Thursday, June 7th on FOX. Will you be watching?
