ABC‘s Dancing With The Stars champ J.R. Martinez made good on his promise not to name his daughter something trendy like “Apple Cider or Salami,” but what’s the meaning behind the newborn’s more mainstream moniker — Lauryn Anabelle?
J.R. Martinez and longtime girlfriend Diana Gonzalez-Jones welcomed their first child together on May 2nd. And just as he promised, the former All My Children star went for a more traditional name for his baby girl, rather than some of the trendier ones we’ve been seeing in Hollywood lately.
But J.R. and Diana weren’t just bucking the trend. Their daughter’s name holds a special meaning to both of the proud new parents.
“Her first name, Lauryn, is after Diana’s younger sister who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year,” Martinez explains to People. “And her middle name, Anabelle, is after my sister who passed away when she was 6.”
So that “she will have her own identity,” J.R. and Diana decided to give their “little lamb” unique spellings of both names.
And now that Belle is finally here, J.R. admits that he’s in need of a few lessons in the hair department.
“She has a full head of hair!” says Martinez. “One of the first things I’m going to have to do is learn how to do her hair because she’s got a lot of it!”
