Last week on CBS‘ Amazing Race, the teams continued their quest in India, where the girls were afraid to shave their heads, and fan favorites, Bopper and Mark were eliminated. Tonight, the remaining four teams will battle it out in Japan, eliminating one team and sending the final three teams to Hawaii, where they will race for the coveted $1 million dollar prize. Who has what it takes to win The Amazing Race in a race like no other? Read on for all the highlights!
It was time for the season 20 finale tonight on The Amazing Race, and it proved to be a fight to the finish line! Rachel and Brendon, Rachel and Dave, Vanessa and Ralph, and Art and J.J. made their way to Japan for the first half of the race, where one team would be eliminated just shy of the final leg. Ironically, Rachel and Dave, who left before everyone else, were the last to arrive as they suffered with some communication issues. Luckily, they were able to make up time as all the teams had to await sunrise for any clues.
Japan proved to be tougher than they thought, and funnier for us at home than we imagined! For their roadblock, the teams had to compete in a Japanese game show, which I must say was the stupidest thing I have ever seen. They had to run on a treadmill while attempting to grab some fake chickens from the air with confetti falling in their faces – it was very strange. Nothing was more comical than watching the dimwits, or as Art and J.J. named them “Conan and the Kardashian” aka Ralph and Vanessa struggle with this challenge. Vanessa, who was suffering from an ankle injury was the lucky one who had to take the treadmill – need I say more? Oh, and did I mention that they got lost in Japan as well?
The detour in Japan was either sushi bingo, or taking sumo photos – well, getting people to pose behind sumo cutouts for photos. Dave and Rachel were the only team to take the photo challenge, and apparently the smartest, because they landed in first place in Japan. Art and J.J. breezed through the sushi bingo, leaving them in second, while Vanessa and Ralph and Brendon and Rachel battled it out for the final spot. Rachel, of course had a breakdown and started to whine and yell at Brendon as usual, making us all hope that they would be eliminated. Ralph and Vanessa, however, were the last team to check in and were eliminated just short of the final leg.
That meant that Rachel and Dave, Brendon and Rachel, and Art and J.J. were headed to Hawaii. And for a moment, Art and J.J. must have been hit with Vanessa and Ralph’s poor direction problem, because they wound up getting lost before the very first challenge. The first detour in the season finale on The Amazing Race was scaling one of Hawaii’s skyscrapers – talk about nerve-racking! On the skyscraper it was the “battle of the Rachels” with Rachel and Dave in the lead most of the time. Once they made it to the top, they had to view the area for their next clue, and the head back down! Insert more Rachel Reilly whining – at this point I wanted to reach through the screen and choke her.
Dave and Brendon were then put through another tough roadblock, as the girls relied on their tough guys to do some Hawaiian ice shaving. And that’s when Rachel and Brendon completely screwed up their chances of winning. They did not properly read the clue, which told them to walk to the outfield, yet these two morons got in the taxi and drove to a stadium – not kidding! This, along with the fact that Rachel and Dave completely overlooked a roadblock (they actually tried to check in with Phil), gave Art and J.J. a chance to catch up.
The missed roadblock, which consisted of riding a Hawaiian sled down a hill, was not meant for big guys apparently, as Art and J.J. could not get it right, while the ladies breezed through it. However, the guys were able to make it up in a bowling challenge that followed, which Rachel Reilly could not master. It was definitely a fight to the finish, but after all was said and done, it was Rachel and Dave who were crowned the season 20 winners, even despite the huge setback of missing the roadblock. Rachel and Dave also set the record for most winning legs in a season with 8! Art and J.J. finished in second place, and Rachel and Brendon in third.
