Big Brother is, without a doubt, one of CBS‘ most dramatic, yet successful reality shows to date. So what happens when another network tries to copy it with their own version of the show? Why, it ends up in a big, nasty lawsuit, which is exactly what is going on with CBS and ABC right now. Read on for the scoop!
Apparently, ABC’s new reality venture is called Life in a Glass House, and it’s strikingly familiar to CBS’ Big Brother, so much so that the network has slapped ABC with a nasty lawsuit! According to TMZ, the lawsuit was filed because CBS feels that ABC is making an “obvious attempt to capitalize on its unique success.” CBS is also accusing ABC of blatant theft of its copyrightable expression, trade secrets and other confidential information surrounding Big Brother.
But, how did ABC get any of this information? According to CBS, ABC has hired at least 19 former Big Brother staff members, whom have disclosed such information to ABC. So, why not sue those staff members instead? Oh, don’t worry, they are. CBS is going after 3 of the higher level Big Brother staff members for $500K each, for allegedly violating a confidentiality agreement they had with the network. Sounds like things are getting nasty between the networks.
With such competition in the world of reality television shows these days, it’s no surprise that ABC is trying their own spin on Big Brother. So, do you think CBS has a case here? Comment and share your thoughts with us below!
