Around The World In 80 Plates Recap: It’s Not Easy Being Cheesy Or Herding Sheep

May 16, 2012 09:44 PM by Veronica Dudo

Eleven lucky chefs get to travel around the globe seeing some of the most iconic sights on Around the World in 80 Plates. On tonight’s episode of Bravo’s newest reality series, the competing chefs travel to Lyon, France where the race continues. This time they must correctly identify goat cheeses, heard sheep and figure out the ingredients in wine!

Celebrity chefs Curtis Stone and Cat Cora are the hosts who take viewers on an up close and personal tour of the world. The 11 remaining chefs include Steve Postal (aka “Nookie”), Sai Pituk, Nicole Lou, Nick Lacasse, Liz Garrett, Keven Lee, John Vermiglio, Jenna Johansen, Gary Walker, Chaz Brown and Avery Pursell.

They must push their culinary skills to the limits during their 60,000 mile long adventure! In Lyon, France the chefs need to correctly identify goat cheeses! Jenna says she is obsessed with chesses therefore she is the best option for the Red Team. Jenna volunteer’s for the task but unfortunately if takes her several tries before finally getting it right. By the time she does, the Black Team who missed their exit–thanks to Kevin–arrives and must begin the cheese challenge. Kevin also volunteers saying he can identify the cheeses–after just a few tries he does get it right.

Now, both the Black and Red Teams must heard sheep. Wait, what does this have to do with cooking skills? Nothing but it’s part of the local culture so they take a stab at getting the sheep into their pens which proves to be no easy task. The chefs try everything from blocking off the sheep, calling to them and even ordering them around in French–which actually works for the Black Team helping them to get a huge lead.

At their next destination, the Black Team must figure out the ingredients of wine. Again, Kevin leads the team saying he has vast wine knowledge–wow, this guy apparently knows everything…or does he? After pairing up the ingredients and wine a couple of times, Kevin still can’t crack the code completely.

Nookie then steps in saying at this point it’s just a matter of math and switches some of the wines around until he has the right combination. The Black Team wins the exceptional ingredient which is a private master class with renowned Chef Josef Viola who teaches them how to make quenelle.

Meanwhile, the Red Team must try and figure out how they will prepare the quenelle, an iconic dish of the city. They scour the area to find and taste the traditional cuisine. One-by-one they taste the dish and decide on their plan of attack.

For the kitchen takeover, the Red Team is really struggling. Nicole runs out of fish and Sai is taking too long on her salad plus she didn’t know how to poach an egg! For the Black Team things are intense in the kitchen with the size of the chickens. Avery suggests to Chaz to cut them down.

Everyone loves the Black Team’s quenelle and the Red Team’s salad. When asked about changing the portion size of the chicken Chaz again claims credit but Avery interrupts and says it was really her idea! Avery gets the title of the most valuable chef and is safe from elimination in the next city. Now, the Red Team must decide who they are going to eliminate. Unfortunately, Sai Pituk receives the most votes and her time in the competition has come to an end.

I was getting tired of Sai’s excuses that she is an Asian chef. Really? WHy did you join this competition if you weren’t confident in your abilities to cook anything. The show wasn’t called “Around Asia in 80 Plates”. And what was up with her stupid hair style? Cute girl – fugly hair
