Yeah, we said it! ABC‘s new reality singing competition, Duets, hasn’t even premiered yet, but already we’re predicting that the show’s going to be better than Simon Cowell‘s X Factor. Yes, even with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato on the judges’ panel. Not great news for Cowell, who’s hoping that the revamped second season will give his show the ratings boost he’s been waiting for, but here’s why we think Duets just may have the upper hand….
Though how it will all work remains to be seen, the premise of ABC’s Duets alone shows a lot of promise, and gives viewers more of what competitors like American Idol and The Voice have been lacking. One being performances from actual celebrities whose albums we’re already paying to listen to.
The producers of Duets definitely knew what they were doing….
They’re still searching for undiscovered talent like all of the other shows, but just like The Voice, the singers will be taking artists under their wings to coach and mentor them. Except, unlike The Voice, that mentoring will last a lot longer; meaning more of those sappy bonding moments between the celebrities and their contestants that we love so much (Yay!), minus the gimmicky chairs.
And um…having Robin Thicke and John Legend on every week doesn’t hurt either!
Duets is set to premiere May 24 on ABC.
What do you think RTVM: Which show are you more excited about — Duets or The X Factor with Britney Spears?
