It’s not easy to claw your way to the top catty world of reality programming. Yesterday, “The Hollywood Reporter” came out with its power rankings of Reality TV’s 50 Most Powerful People. Kris Jenner, Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest and Bethenny Frankel all made the cut. Who made it to the top and who made a drop?
It’s probably no shocker that Ryan Seacrest topped the list. The non-stop producing machine and President and Founder of Ryan Seacrest Productions not only has a rich new 2-year, $15M American Idol contract, but also produces the Kardashian epics and “The Shahs of Sunset.” And while the majority of the top ten include executive types like Mark Burnett, Simon Cowell manages to come in seven spaces below Ryan Seacrest at number 8. No wonder Simon Cowell decided to step out of the shadow of the Idol phenom.
The list is primarily made up studio executives, but if you make your way down to the bottom, two stars who double as producers crept into the mix. Kris Jenner gets props at spot 46 for shepherding four successful shows based on her profitable progeny. Kris Jenner recently signed a $40M deal to deliver three more seasons of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” for E! as well as sealing the deal for her daughters on endorsements and a Sears clothing line.
Bethenny Frankel eked onto the list at number 49 after selling her SkinnyGirl cocktail brand for a cool $120M after promoting it on “The Real Housewives of New York.” She’s about to start a trial run of her new talk show, supported by new daytime queen Ellen Degeneres, she may be looking to make a move up the list for next year.
