Last night on American Idol, we watched as Phillip Phillips was crowned the season 11 winner over Jessica Sanchez. Today, Phillip took some time out all the craziness to chat with the media about his experience. Phillip Phillips also told us all about his health issues, and what we can expect from him next!
Phillip Phillips was crowned the season 11 winner of American Idol last night, but did you know that Phillip did not think he had any chance at winning? Yep, Phillip revealed that and more in his post win interview today with the media. Take a look at what else Phillip wanted to share with his fans.
His thoughts as his name was revealed last night and how he is feeling today:
Honestly I don’t even think I had any thoughts. I was shocked and overwhelmed…and I did not know how to process it all. I didn’t want to sing anything, I was so shocked thinking about the whole top 12 – it was a tough road for all of us, and it got me a little emotional. It’s kind of crazy that it’s over now too. I have a whole new schedule to get used to. The stress is pretty crazy. I am going to try doing anything too mainstream, because that’s not me. It will be cool for people to enjoy music I put out.
On what type of music we can expect on his album and why he feels “Home” was not his type of song:
On the new album I plan to do Jazz/Rock stuff, and I am really excitd to get it out there. It’s going to be cool. Home is a little too pop for me, I am not one to put in any ohs. It’s a good song and I am glad people like it, but I am a little more Rock than that. I hope people will enjoy what I put out. I kind of wanted to do my own song, my own song that I had written. But with such a short amount of time, they couldn’t do it. It’s a good song, but not something I would write.
What Jessica Sanchez said to him immediately after his name was announced:
She said that she knew it, and that she was so proud of me. I didn’t know it, and I thought she would win. She has such an amazing voice.
How Phillip feels about being compared to the past four winners of American Idol:
It’s just people and their opinions. Look at the past winners, we’re all different, and I feel like I am very different in terms of the guitar. I am not as great of a singer as they are. I feel like I am different, I am not an outstanding singer. I can’t hit all the high notes or anything, but I try to do something with it. I am different on the guitar, and I just feel that I am different.
On his health issues, and whether or not they affect his time on the Idol tour:
My right kidney is not functioning. I have to get that fixed pretty soon with surgery. I am still not quite not sure yet when. couple times I thought about getting out of it, but I had a lot of great doctors. I came close to dropping out to get the surgery done. A couple times I thought about getting out of it, but I had a lot of great doctors. I really came close to dropping out to get the surgery done. I won’t miss any tour dates. I am ready to just jam out on tour – it’s gonna be fun. I don’t know if I’ll be singing a lot, but it’s going to be a lot of jam music.
On his girlfriend (sorry ladies) and his friendship with Hee Jun Han:
She is very excited for me, she helped me out through this. She is going to come with me on tour – she supported me throughout this, and I love her to death. As for all the adoring girls, I am all about the music, not about being some cute guy who’s successful. Hee Jun and I met one day and we just kind of clicked. He’s a really great guy, we still keep in touch. He has a big future ahead of him.
Phillip Phillips also revealed that his favorite performance last night was Jessica Sanchez and Jennifer Holliday, and when asked how much an asset J LO is to the show, he really had nothing more to say than that she was a nice lady.
Congratulations again to Phillip Phillips!
