Fans of Lifetime reality show Dance Moms know just how harsh
teacher drill sergeant Abby Lee Miller can be. Her controversial teaching methods include yelling at her students and posting their pictures up in a pyramid format. But you can’t deny that she gets results. Read more to learn what Abby Lee Miller really thinks about dance and discipline.
Dance teacher Abby Lee Miller is constantly reminding parents that she’s not there to make kids feel special; she’s there to turn out winning dance routines. She certainly succeeds at this endeavor, taking home all kinds of awards at the weekly competitions her dancers attend. But the path to those trophies is fraught with controversy.
In an interview broadcast on ABC’s Nightline, Abby adamantly defended her teaching methods. Although she admitted that she “sometimes” did make her kids cry, she was also quick to point out that “sometimes, I’m making…kids’ dreams come true.”
When asked whether today’s children suffer from overconfidence, the Dance Moms celeb quipped, “kids get a trophy now for being born…give them a t-shirt. Give them a sweat towel, water bottle, something like that. The trophy should be earned.”
The measures taken to earn those trophies is what appears to bother Dance Moms viewers so much. In the past several months, a number of public figures have spoken out against Abby Lee Miller, including actress Katherine Heigl and Dancing With The Stars pro Mark Ballas.
Abby Lee Miller may not be earning any celebrity fans, but she is earning trophies. Or, at least, her kids are. The question is, at what price? Tune in to the Dance Moms premiere on June 5th to see more dancing and drama.
