Duets Recap: Too Much Onion, Not Enough Cheese, And Where’s Johnny Gray?!

May 31, 2012 09:10 PM by Shayla Perry

Tonight on ABC‘s Duets, it’s only the second week into the competition and we’ve already lost a frontrunner! But what happened to Johnny Gray if eliminations haven’t even begun? And what’s with Robin Thicke and his onion and cheese sandwiches?! Who ended up at the top of the leader board tonight? Keep reading for all the details.

After a duet from Kelly Clarkson and Robin Thicke that left us in a “State of Shock,” John Legend and his amateur, Bridget Carrington hit the stage to sing “I Knew You Were Waiting,” hoping that a better ranking was waiting for her by the end of the show.

Kelly was also hoping to get her amateurs, Jason Farol and Jordan Meredith, up from the bottom of the chart, starting with a performance of “Misery” with Jordan. Will being the only all female pair help or hurt this duet in the competition?

Up next, Jennifer Nettles and John Glosson were out to prove that he belongs at the top of the chart, and what better song than “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” to do just that. Unfortunately, the other coaches didn’t exactly agree with the song choice — or John’s moves. The coaches thought it was a little on the cheesy side, but in our opinion, you can never have enough cheese.

Robin Thicke and Olivia Chisholm try to figure out “Where Is The Love,” but they don’t find it, landing in fourth place on the leader board.

Shockingly, we learn that Johnny Gray isn’t returning to the competition (what’s that all about?!), so John Legend had to quickly find a replacement. His new amateur — Meleana Brown, sings her first song with Legend, “Endless Love,” and wows the coaches, getting her the top spot on the leader board, and what we think is a compliment from Robin. Onions, tomato, and provolone?

Next, Kelly Clarkson and Jason Farol take on Mariah Carey‘s “Whenever You Call.” Jason’s family and friends are in full force once again, but he only gets to the 5th spot, ahead of Olivia Chisholm (Week 6 people…then you can vote!).

Last week’s frontrunner, J Rome sings “You’re the One That I Want” with Jennifer. He’s not too crazy about the song choice, but trusts his coach, and it pays off, as he’s tied for first place with Meleana.

The final duet of the night is from Robin Thicke and Alexis Foster singing “You’re All I Need To Get By.” Kelly thought it was a bit “disconnected,” and the others likely agreed, as she didn’t get too far up the chart.

So where did everyone end up at the end of the show? Here are this week’s standings:

1-Meleana Brown, J Rome

3-Bridget Carrington

4-John Glosson

5-Jordan Meredith

6-Alexis Foster

7-Jason Farol

8-Olivia Chisholm

What did you think of tonight’s performances? Do you agree with the coaches’ scores? What do you think of Meleana? Who do you think will be sent home next week? Sound off in the Comments section below.

Johnny was the best “singer” on the show, not a performer, but a real singer–much like the late Luther Vandross. Meleana is fully useless. Robin chose the wrong team. He should have chosen the two girls he didn’t select if he was interested in talent. Bridget is not Aretha Franklin, but she performed the song very well with John in her own way last week. Those are just my burning opinions abou the show, though I could definitely say more.

I thought Jordan performance doing Misery was out standing and last nights performance was even better . Think the judges can’t get past her pink hair . That girl has got it .
