Duets: The Curious Case of Johnny Gray
June 04, 2012 08:30 AM by Shayla Perry
Fans of ABC‘s Duets were shocked to learn that John Legend‘s amateur, Johnny Gray was already out of the competition after appearing in just one episode. We were even more shocked when we didn’t get an explanation. And now that Gray is (kind of) speaking out about the issue, we want answers! What happened? Here’s what we know so far….
Okay, we admit it… When it was announced that Johnny Gray wasn’t going to be competing on Duets due to “unforeseen circumstances,” one name immediately came to mind: Jermaine Jones.
Did producers of the show find some kind of illegal activity in Gray’s past?
According to Johnny, the answer is a resounding NO! In fact, he had to look up Jermaine Jones online to find out why everyone kept asking him about the former American Idol contestant.
So, what did happen?
“I can tell you that I didn’t ‘drop out’ and hopefully soon, I can talk more about it,” Gray posted on his Twitter page, letting fans know that he had every intention of “coming back to kill” after making it to the 2nd spot on the leader board in the first episode.
It sounds like Duets has some explaining to do. Because if the judges can give secret scores on a scale of 1-100 and producers can just take people out of the competition without any explanation, the whole thing just seems a little suspect.
Okay, RTVM: Why do you think Johnny Gray was taken out of the competition? (And for all of the conspiracy theorists out there, Gray assures everyone, “It’s not a ‘stunt’ I promise.”)
