Last week on The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard let single dad, Tony, off the hook and sent him home when it became obvious he was missing his child so much. She also sent Alessandro packing during the cocktail party after he said becoming a father to Ricki would be a compromise! Stevie left during the Rose Ceremony. Tonight, Emily and her men are off to Bermuda. Keep reading…
Chris Harrison meets with the remaining bachelors on The Bachelorette and tells them that this week, there will be a one-on-one date, a group date, and the dreaded two-on-one date. The good news? Emily Maynard has left Charlotte, and they’re meeting her in Bermuda!
Ricki and Emily frolic in Bermuda. Emily tells the camera she’s dreaming of coming back there one day with her husband, pregnant and maybe pushing a baby carriage. Meanwhile, her bachelors are racing through the streets on minibikes and babies appear to be the furthest thing from their minds.
Doug scores the one-on-one date. Arie thinks Doug should be sent home and romance should start to take precedence over ‘bromance’. Ouch. Arie plays on Doug’s nervousness, pushes his buttons, and gets him all riled up. Emily arrives just as it appears Doug might punch Arie out. She senses the tension.
Emily and Doug walk around sampling chocolate and shopping in Bermuda. Emily feels super connected to him. I feel bad that she doesn’t know about the violent incident in his past! Emily learns he started a charity, and falls even more. She says he’s so positive; she can’t imagine him being grumpy. Gah! In a surprise move, Doug admits she walked in on him being grumpy with the other guys. They write a postcard to his son and make a wish at a magical gate.
Over dinner, Emily starts to notice that Doug is always giving the perfect answer - a lot like Brad. She asks what complaint his ex-girlfriend would have about him, but he continues to give ‘perfect’ answers. He totally puts on this humble pie thing – “I’m not a genius, and I’m not a dummy…I’m just Doug.” She offers him the rose. He talks about himself in the third person in-camera; “If Emily wants a kiss from Doug…” Yeck!
The group date includes Charlie, Ryan, Chris, Jef, Sean, Arie, Travis, and Kalan. They’re going sailing. It turns out the guys aren’t experienced in this particular field, but will have to win a race to spend extra time with Emily. They split into two teams – red and yellow – and the trash talking begins. After a lot of macho posturing and near mishaps the yellow team takes it. Arie, Jef, Ryan, and Kalan are the winners. The red team sulks on the way back to the suite. One guy even appears to cry!
As the group date continues, Ryan makes awkward references to Emily being a trophy wife, and Arie decides to cut to the chase and steal Emily for some private time. They make out on the beach. He’s sexy and confident, but his bass-like open-mouthed kissing is a bit scary. When Jef spends time with Emily, he promises to try to open up more, and then suggests they should be getting back, and doesn’t even try to kiss her! Fail!
Ryan and Emily have a contentious conversation about his preoccupation with her being beautiful and physically fit. He avoids answering her when she asks what he’d think if she gained weight after having his children. Ryan then calls her out on kissing Arie in front of them last week. Nervy! She apologizes, but says relationships on the show move at different speeds – she feels judged. Emily elects to offer Jef the rose. He didn’t expect it – no one did.
The dreaded two-on-one date goes to John ‘Wolf’ and Nate, making up a ‘Bermuda Triangle’ with Emily. The consensus back in the suite is that John will return because he has more swagger. It turns out to be the most boring cliff-jumping date I’ve ever seen. Later, they have dinner in some beautiful caves. Awkward is written all over Emily’s face as the guys discuss the ingredients of the meal while she sits between them. Nate spends time with her alone and tears up talking about his family and friends. Yike. John talks about not wanting to float in the middle of the pack anymore and nabs the rose. Young Nate heads home. I’m surprised she didn’t send them both packing.
Arie is increasingly irritated with Ryan, whom he thinks is narcissistic and not concerned with Emily’s happiness. As if to prove the point, Ryan gets time with Emily and asks her to explain why she’s worthy. Really? Arie interrupts. Ryan thinks Arie is obviously threatened. He tells the camera that Emily has potential, but if it doesn’t work out, he’s certain the media will push for Bachelor Ryan. Gag.
Sean and Emily talk about marriage and kiss. Meanwhile, Doug and Ryan are having a bizarre conversation in which they agree kissing Emily doesn’t prove anything. Emily goes off with overly-intense Chris. He whines to Emily that the other guys are bugging him about being 25, but insists he’s ready to be a father and a husband. Afterward, he confronts Doug, who was the person that mentioned age. The other guys gather for ’round 2′. Doug pretends not to know where Chris is coming from. Chris is certain that Doug’s over-the-top humble act means he has something to hide. Ya’ think?
Doug, Jef, and John ‘Wolf’ already have roses. Emily chats with Chris Harrison and mentions that Ryan and Doug’s names have repeatedly come up when there is controversy in the house. She also thinks Ryan is manipulative. Maybe she’s not just a pretty face! Emily offers roses to Sean, Arie, Travis, Chris, Ryan, Kalan, and Alejandro. I can’t believe she kept Ryan after all she said to Chris! Cray cray! Michael and Charlie head home.
Emily tells the remaining guys they are heading to London.
