The Glee Project Recap: Dance-ability And Spin The Bottle

June 12, 2012 09:10 PM by Veronica Dudo

Emotions are wild on tonight’s episode of The Glee Project when the remaining contenders have to bust out their best dance moves and play spin the bottle plus a contestant decides to leave the competition! A very special guest–Samuel Larsen who was last year’s winner is tonight’s special mentor. Many are shocked about what occurs during a game of spin the bottle–keep reading to find out what happens on the Oxygen reality TV series.

The 13 remaining contestants are Abraham, Ali, Aylin, Blake, Charlie, Dani, Lily Mae, Mario, Michael, Nellie, Shanna, Taryn and Tyler. The hopefuls must dance and sing their way onto the Glee set. Most of them haven’t had a lot of professional experience but each week the contestants must learn the lyrics to songs, work on their vocal delivery and learn choreography!

This season the cast is very diverse including a contestant who is blind, one who is paralyzed from the chest down and another who has severe ADHD and low-spectral autism which reinforces the Glee theme of encouraging everyone to follow their dreams. However, it’s only the second week and people are already starting to get irritated with one another. Abruptly, Taryn decides she wants to leave the competition! Will this effect Ryan Murphy’s decision to eliminate a contestant? Time will tell.

All are vying for the grand prize–a seven episode arc on Glee and they waste no time getting started. This week, the contenders learn from Casting Director Robert Ulrich that their homework assignment is to sing and perform “You’ve Got the Beat.”

Ready to perform for their guest mentor Samuel Larsen the contenders perform the upbeat jam. Sam picks Tyler as the winner of the homework assignment so he gets a one-on-one lesson with Sam.

The mentors are Robert Ulrich, Zach Woodlee and Nikki Anders. For the music video, the contestants will sing the “Party Rock Anthem” while at a house party. During choreography lessons, Zach and his team work with the contestants who seem to be struggling with the dance moves. Even during the freestyle, Zach repeatedly tells them not to do corny “wedding” dance moves!

While practicing their scenes, the contestants play spin the bottle. Aylin really plants a kiss on Blake who doesn’t seem to mind. The other contenders are shocked. Aylin even admits she enjoyed the kiss. Later, Charlie appears to be a little jealous and Aylin shares a smooch with him!

After the music video wraps, Robert says, it was the worst music video shoot of all time! Zach says the dance scenes especially were very frustrating to watch.

After observing all of them the mentors choose Dani, Tyler and Lily Mae as the contestants in the bottom three. They now move on to the last chance performance with Dani singing Stevie Nicks’ “Landside,” Tyler singing “Daniel” by Elton John and Lily Mae singing “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” by Shania Twain.

All three contenders sing really well and the mentors are again reminded why these contestants are in the competition. Ultimately, Ryan Murphy says he can imagine Dani as an artist but he’s not sure if she is a Broadway-style performer the show is looking for; therefore she is eliminated.

I was sad to see Dani go. I know she can’t win this thing, but I thought there were other people weaker than her, and one of them was in the Bottom Three with her. I don’t really care to see any more of Tyler. The only thing he brings to the table is that he’s transgender, and Glee’s already got a better version of that in Alex/Unique.
