Move aside Justin Bieber. The newest teen heartthrobs are all part of the UK boy band sensation One Direction. And now, even American Idol champion and Duets mentor Kelly Clarkson is fawning over the band. Why did Kelly Clarkson write One Direction a song and what does she think of the newest boy band craze? Keep reading for the scoop!
What do you do when a set of recently written lyrics don’t really fit into your album? Well, if you’re Kelly Clarkson, you hand those lyrics over to One Direction! This decision was greatly influenced by former American Idol judge Simon Cowell, a figure that Clarkson says has “been really supportive” since she became the very first winner of the popular singing competition.
Simon Cowell happens to be the manager of One Direction, which is why it wasn’t a completely random decision for Kelly Clarkson to hand over her lyrics. However, even with Cowell’s influence, Clarkson never would have consented to such a project if she didn’t appreciate the band’s talent. She had only good things to say about the band during an interview with Pressparty.com. ”One Direction have worked so well in America as well as the U.K. because people love a story, plus they have this innocence about them that attracts people.”
As reality show alums and friends of Simon Cowell, Kelly Clarkson and the guys of One Direction already have plenty in common. It will be interesting to see whether they collaborate again in the future.
