The Bachelorette Recap: Shameless Plugs, Secret Roses, And Yes, Ryan’s Still a Douche

June 18, 2012 07:54 PM by Shayla Perry

This week on Disney’s Brave ABC‘s The Bachelorette, it’s off to Croatia where the men compete in a watered down version of the Highland games, enduring cold weather and bruised egos all for the chance to win…a cup. Seriously. BUT, Emily Maynard makes things a little interesting throughout the night with some secret roses. Who does she pick for her one-on-one dates? Who gets sent home? And is Ryan really that much of a douche?! The last one, you probably know the answer to, but you can find out everything else about tonight’s episode after the jump.

With her daughter, Ricki, back at home, Emily’s able to get back to business with the men, and she’s not wasting any time.

Minutes after they get to their swanky Croatian digs, Emily shows up and lets the guys know that Travis is going on the first one-on-one date.

As they explore downtown Dubrovnik, poor Travis says that he feels like he and Emily have been dating for years, but he still looks a little on the stiff side; especially when Emily gives him the perfect set-up to take off his shirt and he doesn’t bite.

For some, that’s probably a good thing; not everyone wants a man who’s always so eager to take his shirt off. Emily, on the other hand, wanted to see what he had to offer, so color her disappointed.

A little dancin’ in the streets and a candlelit dinner and Travis is “ready to bust out of the friend zone,” but Emily still worries that the romance factor is missing, which is why she doesn’t give him the rose at the end of the night.

Ryan knew that things wouldn’t work out for Travis. He thinks that Emily’s in need of a bad boy, and he’s got one in mind for her (even typing that felt dirty). Luckily for him, he’s going to get the chance to prove it.

But first, a little shameless plug for Disney’s Brave; a movie any group of single guys would trip over themselves to see in an empty Croatian theater with one girl. Score!

And just like the movie, the fellas compete in their own Highland games; kilts and all. Some definitely pull off the look better than others (*cough* SEAN *cough*), but the donkey ride proved difficult (read: awkward) for everyone — including the donkeys!

After sucking at all of the challenges, Chris is upset that he didn’t come across so well, but Emily surprises everyone (*cough* SEAN *cough*), when she gives him the bravery award at the end.

Still worried about London, Arie wants to be sure that things are cool with Emily, and she assures him with a kiss. So, um…yeah…Arie’s feeling a lot better now.

Jef’s feeling a lot better, too, and definitely more at ease around Emily, and eager to kiss her again (and again).

She’s getting along with all of the guys throughout the night, but it’s rather awkward when Emily has to get the rose from the table where everyone else is sitting to give it to Chris, trying to hurry off without making eye contact with anyone. (Ouch!)

No one is as happy as Ryan that he’s going on a date with Emily, except maybe Ryan’s reflection. With the world as their oyster, the two go driving through Croatia, then catch some oysters before he ruins the date with the whole trophy wife thing again, making Emily wonder if he’s really that much of a douche (yes!), or if there’s a nice guy somewhere under there…buried deep down…waaaaaay down.

At dinner, Ryan busts out a list of characteristics of his future wife, but Emily says she finds herself feeling the need to be perfect every time she’s with him. She’s not sure they’re looking for the same thing in a relationship, so she says that she’s not going to give him a rose.

But Ryan, his is a persistent one, and he’s not about to lose his trophy, so he actually tries to convince her to change her mind! Emily doesn’t cave, although it looks like she was close to it.

After all of the high 5′s and hugs upon the news that Ryan’s leaving, Arie takes the opportunity to sneak off and climb into bed with Emily — just to make sure she’s okay. (Riiiight!).

He tells her that she made the she made the right decision sending Ryan home, and in appreciation, Emily gives him a “secret rose” and a very long kiss goodnight.

The next night, Emily is thinking about sending home John and Doug, but after John shows her his grandparents’ funeral cards that he keeps in his wallet, and a pep talk with “Humble Doug,” she starts to doubt herself.

She manages to give out roses to Sean, Jef, and Arie, but before handing out the final rose, Emily walks out and asks Chris Harrison for some advice. After handing Chris the last rose, Emily walks back in and lets the guys know that she doesn’t feel comfortable handing it out…instead, she’s giving out two!

Next stop: Prague!
