Last week on The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard sent home
creeper single dad Doug Clerget right in the middle of the group date. In one of the most cringe-worthy Bachelorette breakups ever, Doug leaned in and kissed Emily (finally!) while she was breaking up with him. Awkward – and too little, too late. What in the world possessed Doug to do such a thing?!?
Obviously, Doug grossly misunderstood Emily’s intent when she walked him outside during their date in Prague. Doug talks about what was running through HIS mind at the time:
“I thought she was saying, “Hey Doug, you gotta be a little more aggressive in terms of showing me you’re interested in me,” and I think Emily was such a sweetheart throughout the whole thing. And just because I’m a single dad, I tend to take things a little more slowly. And so, I really just wanted to get to know Emily on a personal level and build a good friendship there. So she was talking to me and I thought the conversation was heading towards, “Come on, give me a kiss!” And then I really wasn’t expecting to be sent home. I was hoping to get a hometown date, and so, I was kind of bummed out!”
Doug started the season as a strong contender. Emily even gave Doug the coveted first-impression rose! So, what went wrong?
In her People blog, Emily writes: ”Ever since I gave him the first-impression rose I felt like I spent more time begging Doug to open up to me, rather than actually getting to know him. And after Arie told me he loved me, it made me realize how different so many of my relationships were.” She also writes that she was mortified by Doug’s badly timed kiss.
While Doug wasted many opportunities to connect with Emily, he spent a lot of time getting to know the other guys. Who does he think is the best match for Emily?
“Of the guys that are left: Sean I love, Arie I love, Jef is one of the most awesome guys I know. Chris, we had a bump in the road which took me by surprise,” says Doug. ”Gosh, it’s a tough call between Arie, Jef, and Sean. But I think because of our backgrounds, Sean and I were really close. So probably Sean.”
Tonight on The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard visits the hometowns of her final four - Arie Luyendyk, Jr., Sean Lowe, Jef Holm, and Chris Bukowski. What do you think of Emily’s final four?
