Duets Recap: J Rome Sets A New Standard

July 05, 2012 07:21 PM by Shayla Perry

This week on ABC‘s Duets, the superstars and their amateurs took a stab at some  standards, and frontrunner J Rome gave a performance so good that Kelly Clarkson was out of her chair not once, but three times; broken foot and all. Who was sent home, and which amateur is in danger of getting eliminated next week?

After a few weeks of poor performances, Olivia Chisholm was FINALLY put out of her misery and sent home, leaving Robin Thicke all alone in the “superstar lounge,” without any amateurs remaining in the competition.  At least he has his ego to keep him company.

Bridget Carrington also found herself in the bottom two tonight, and it won’t be a shock if she’s there next week, too.

Performing Nat King Cole‘s “Unforgettable,” with John Legend may have sounded like a good idea in theory. After all, it was the same song that John sang in his first talent competition ever — and won. But it’s not exactly a good sign when the judges can’t stop gushing about John’s vocals and how he should record the song himself. We don’t blame them. And for the record, YES, we’d love to hear John Legend doing “Unforgettable” solo, but we’d also love to hear him sing the phone book.

Either way, not good for Bridget.

So, will this be Bridget Carrington’s last performance on Duets?

With a simply ah-mazing rendition of  “God Bless The Child” from Jennifer Nettles and J Rome, and Jason Farol‘s family er–  fan base getting bigger and bigger each week, John Glosson and Bridget Carrington definitely have their work cut out for them if they’re going to make it into the Final Three. Or should we say, their FANS have their work cut out for them?!

BUT, could one of the frontrunners end up with the least amount of votes? Stranger things have happened. (Like that whole Johnny Gray thing.)

Tell us RTVM: Who do you think will be eliminated next week — J Rome, Jason Farol, John Glosson, or Bridget Carrington? Sound off in the Comments section below.

I don’t know how anybody could deny the superior vocal chops of J. Rome and John Glosson. Between the 2, it’s hard for me to decide which is technically better: I think it’s a matter of taste. And on that basis, I’d have to go with J. Rome for his versatility and style.

As to who should go, I think Jason Farol — adorable as he may be — is not (yet) as good as Bridget Carrington. I do like the tone of his voice and believe he’ll mature into a much better singer. His performance today was his best by far but he’s still not enunciating the lyrics clearly . . . very frustrating.

Bridget, on the other hand, is already a mature singer with less room to grow. I think Jason has more popular potential than Bridget does in the long run. Based on their performances to date, I think Jason should be the next to go . . . but I wouldn’t mind at all if America chooses him over Bridget. And with the voting power of teenage girls on Jason’s side, I think it will probably be Bridget who leaves next.
