She’s already notable as the first American Idol champ, an extremely successful singer and one of the mentors on Duets, but now Kelly Clarkson has added yet one more feat to her long list of accomplishments. Her hit song Stronger is officially the best-selling American Idol single! Who did Kelly Clarkson beat out for this impressive honor? Keep reading to find out!
Kelly Clarkson has had a good run since her initial victory on American Idol. She’s released several albums, all of which have been wildly successful. And now, she’s helping others reach the same level of success on the new show Duets.
Clarkson’s latest milestone happened on July 4th, giving her that much more to cheer about on an already celebratory day. The big accomplishment? Kelly Clarkson beat out Carrie Underwood to become the Idol winner with the best-selling record. As of July 4th, Clarkson’s Stronger had sold over 3,510,000 copies, a seriously impressive figure for any recording artist. Carrie Underwood’s hit single Before He Cheats hasn’t done too shabby either since its release in 2006, selling 3,509,000 copies. The crazy thing, though, is that Carrie Underwood had six years to reach the 3.5 million mark and Kelly Clarkson has accomplished that in a much shorter period of time.
Carrie Underwood may have been bested in the battle of the singles, but she’s still going strong with album sales. Underwood has so far sold 13,205,000 albums, with Clarkson trailing behind with a total of 11,664,000. This means that when Simon Cowell’s prediction that Underwood was going to “sell more records than any other previous Idol winner” has come true! Unless, of course, Clarkson comes out with another killer album. It would be pretty difficult to top Underwood’s Some Hearts, the best-selling female country debut in the history of the Recording Industry Association of America and, of course, the top American Idol debut album. But hey, it’s a worthy goal to shoot for!
