If you’re like us and keeping score in the on-going battle between ABC and CBS, ABC has definitely wracked up some major points this week. By strategically moving the season finale of The Bachelorette to Sunday, July 22nd, instead of its usual Monday night time slot, the network has practically forced CBS to make some pretty big programming changes as well. All the details after the jump!
Chalk this one up as another victory for ABC.
They may still be tied up in a legal battle with CBS over their latest reality bomb, The Glass House; a sub-standard knock-off of Big Brother that most of the country is hoping gets cancelled after this season (or before!), but ABC is showing that they still rule when it comes to dating shows with their recent move.
After the network announced that the season finale of The Bachelorette will air on Sunday, July 22nd, followed by a live (yes, LIVE) After the Final Rose special, CBS immediately changed the premiere date of their new dating show, 3, to July 29th to avoid having to compete with the ratings juggernaut.
While ABC maintains that the decision to do a live After the Final Rose special was simply an attempt to prevent spoilers from being leaked, no one at the network is copping to the reasons behind the change in the finale date.
Was it all about revenge?
So far, the court has sided with ABC in the copyright case over The Glass House, with U.S. District Judge Gary Feess stating that he’s “not persuaded that the broadcast will dull the appetite of viewers of Big Brother.” But CBS still has a bone to pick with several former Big Brother producers who are now working with The Glass House, and the network is out to prove that they violated their confidentiality agreements.
Until then…the saga continues.
