American Idol has become a little bit like last week’s bread. We still eat it (for now) even though it’s awfully stale. Fox knows this, and they’ve promised American Idol will undergo changes and get “some creative invigoration” before Season 12 premieres in January. Is Adam Lambert invigorating enough for you? The season eight runner up is reportedly in talks to be the newest American Idol judge! Continue reading for all the details.
“They have been talking about Adam for over a month,” a source tells E! News. “He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start. He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him.”
Producer Nigel Lythgoe hints that changes are being made but confirms nothing. He says, “As of this moment in time, we are still in negotiations as we are with everybody. Everything is up in the air. There will be changes for sure, but nothing that stops it from what it is, which is an out and out talent show.”
It’s no secret that Jennifer Lopez might leave American Idol. Pretty much, now that people care about her again, she’s washing her hands of Idol. More surprising, according to this source, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler might also be on their way out. Say what?!? That would definitely freshen up American Idol, wouldn’t it?
“Randy is great, but he’s part of the old Idol,” the source said. “They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and for that reason he may well not be part of the new line up.” Can you imagine the judges’ table minus Jackson, the only original judge left? No crazy outfits, no “dude,” no “dog!”, no “for me for you,” no “…in it to win it!”
According to a source close to Steven, his fate is “up in the air” also.
This “source” sure talks about knowing a lot, but none of this news has been confirmed by Fox or Adam Lambert. That said, having someone behind the judges’ panel who has actually been through the process is a fantastic idea, and I’m getting a little excited about the possibility! Is Adam Lambert the right choice though? Sound off in the comments below.
