“Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro Gets Some Not-So-Sweet News About His Mother

July 11, 2012 02:00 PM by Lisa Princ

Next Great Baker‘s Buddy Valastro, aka the Cake Boss, has two great loves: creating sweet treats, and of course, his family. Unfortunately, Buddy recently got some not-so-sweet news about his mother. What was it? Read on to find out!

We all know that Buddy Valastro treasures his family more than he does his sweet creations, and the Cake Boss recently shared some sad news about his mother. According to People Magazine, Buddy Valastro revealed to them: “I can confirm that my mother Mary – the heartbeat of the Valastro family and Momma to all of Carlo’s Bakery – has been diagnosed with ALS.” ALS, also know as Lou Gehrig’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, and there is no known cure for the disease.

Despite having no cure, Buddy Valastro’s mother is one tough cookie. Buddy went on to explain: “She is tackling it with the strength and determination she always shows. The entire family is in this together, fighting for her,” adding: “We’d like to thank all of our fans for the love and prayers. It means a great deal to all of us.” Mary Valastro is only 64-years young, so we imagine she will fight it every step of the way. All of our prayers here at RTVM go out to the Valastro family!

My heart go’s out to your family. Just keep your Mother close to you and push her to be strong and not give up. They are finding new drugs every day as well as nutrition and other things to keep her ready to fight this. She is such a strong force in your family!! Don’t let her give up hope, And most of all, You have to not give up hope. God will see you through this.

I am so sorry for mama’s ALS diagnosis. In May of this year I lost my young husband to this horrible disease. Are you sure mama wasn’t in the marine corps like my BOB, cuz she seems to be as big a fighter as he was. She also has his desires for life, and his ability to be in charge. I will be watching and praying for all of you. You all have each other and that is important.

What a terrible thing to have diseases in our world that destroy our lives. What a wonderful thing to have a family like yours to support your Mom. God will watch over her and give her the strength she needs to face her trials.

We’ve been raised miles and miles apart, your family is Italian, mine is mostly Native American but our families are so very similar. Lost my Moma in 2005, and it has been a pleasure to share yours through your program.

Will continue to watch and pray.

The Cake Boss family is very dear to my heart. I watch it faithfully and was saddened to hear about Mom’s illness. I pray that she remains strong and does not give up. She made Buddy and his sisters what they are today. I love the “Cake Boss” show and will be praying for the family as they go through this difficult time. God Bless Mom and all the family!

    My best to you all.
My mom had four girls and a boy just like Buddy’s mom. The show is fantastic!
