July 13, 2012 08:00 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

American Idol champ Scotty McCreery may be a fantastic musician in his own right, but he’s still eager to learn more from seasoned professionals. He’s getting a great start by touring with country star Brad Paisley. What does McCreery have to say about having Paisley for a mentor? Keep reading to find out!

Winning American Idol can certainly do wonders for one’s music career, but that doesn’t mean that champs can get complacent. Scotty McCreery has often told interviewers of his love for learning and improving, which is why it makes perfect sense that the American Idol victor would latch on to Brad Paisley, one of country music’s biggest stars.

Scotty McCreery says he’s super excited to be working with the likes of Brad Paisley, a country star known for his down-to-earth attitude. “Brad is a great guy. He treats his opening acts well and treats the people who work for him well. I haven’t been on any other tours, but I’ve heard horror stories about the headliners not talking to their opening acts and don’t want anything to do with them … they just brush off all their workers and it’s all about them. But Brad, he’s the total opposite.”

McCreery has been lucky enough to get a little bonding time in with Paisley. “Brad will walk around and eat dinner with anybody.  Sometimes, he’ll ask me to come eat dinner or lunch with him. He’s just an all-around good guy. You can talk to him about anything.” Sounds like McCreery’s having a good time on tour! And as always, he’s learning and growing into the best musician and person he can be.
