When both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler stepped down from their places on the judges’ panel of American Idol to focus on their acting and singing careers, most of us thought their excuses sounded like major BS. We just knew it wouldn’t be long before a different story about the shake-up on the FOX reality show emerged, and well– here it is. Did they really quit? A new report suggests otherwise, and we’ve got all the details!
So what happened?
Apparently, Jennifer Lopez’s reps went into negotiations for her third season on the show asking for $17 million; a $2 million increase, but the network “surprised her” by not making a counteroffer.
And if you think that’s bad…
Sources say that Steven Tyler didn’t even get to the negotiation phase; FOX just didn’t pick up his option for another season.
Now, with Jennifer and Steven out, the focus is turned toward veteran judge Randy Jackson, who’s been on the show since its start.
Rumor has it that Jackson may be leaving the judges’ panel, but returning to the program as a mentor. Unlike his former co-workers, however, the ball seems to be in Randy’s court — somewhat.
The Wrap also reports that at least two top execs at FOX – Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly – want to completely revamp the show with all new judges, only having host Ryan Seacrest return.
What do you think RTVM: Were Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler fired from American Idol? Do you think Randy Jackson should judge for another season, or would you rather see three new judges on the panel? Sound off in the Comments section below.
