Seems like the American Idol judges are dropping out faster than contestants during auditions. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are already out and Randy Jackson’s resignation is looming. So who do the producers have on their shortlist to replace these superstars?
The rumors are already flying and some big names are being tossed up for potential American Idol judges to take over the spaces that J.Lo and Steven Tyler left vacant. Mariah Carey, Celine and Mary J. Blige are all whispers and rumors right now as possible new judges according to “Associated Press.”
But will those choices bring in the ratings and the advertisers? American Idol has been in triage, shedding viewers in its 11th season. During the last season of Idol, the median age of the viewers was 50! You know when Steven Tyler is younger than his viewers that you have to get a little hipper.
“They need judges who will resonate with young people,” said media analyst Brad Adgate. And it seems that Simon Cowell is one step ahead of his former show producers by hiring younger, more relevant judges in Demi Lovato and Britney Spears.
Other potential judges that might youthen the Idol audience include 19-year-old Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, 29, and Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert, both 30.
J.Lo announced her departure on Friday, one day after Steven Tyler. Each appeared for two seasons. Is there a reason behind the mass Idol exit? Is the show in inevitable decline or will it rise like the phoneix to fly in Simon’s face?
