American Idol has had a complete shake-up over the last few days, with both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler out of the judging panel and Randy Jackson’s position questionable. A number of celebs have expressed interest in taking up the open spots, including Adam Lambert and
trainwreck Anger Management star Charlie Sheen. The latest celeb to join that list? None other than Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul. Keep reading for the scoop!
Aretha Franklin possesses a huge list of accomplishments, including 18 Grammy Awards and a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time. Now, she’s like to add American Idol judge onto that list. The singing sensation responded to a CNN email question about the reality show, saying, “Yes, I am interested as a judge!” She also revealed that she had been a fan of the show for years, watching as one talented individual after another rose to take home American Idol crowns and then wow their fans with successful music careers.
Of course, if Aretha Franklin joined Idol, there’d still be one or even two open spots remaining on the judging panel. Franklin has the perfect solution to that quandary: bring Patti LaBelle with as a sidekick! LaBelle has not yet responded to Franklin’s suggestion, but if she liked the idea, there could be at least two judges next season who really knew what they were talking about!
Do you think that Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle would make good additions to the American Idol judging panel? Or do you have another idea for a singer who might be better suited to the job? Share your thoughts below!
