Madonna, Elvis and Lady Gaga made appearances on tonight’s episode of The Glee Project–well sort of…each contestant had the opportunity to portray rock icons on the Oxygen reality TV series. Get ready to take a trip down music memory lane with Boy George, Britney Spears and David Bowie! Glee’s Grant Gustin also guest starred on the competition. Keep reading to find out who stayed and who was shown the door!
While the contestants on The Glee Project are Glee fans, they’re also aspiring singers hoping to get their big break and the chance to be on their favorite TV show. For their music video, the contenders must embrace the traits and characteristics of rock stars but first they perform a famous tune for their homework assignment.
The 8 remaining contestants are Abraham, Ali, Aylin, Blake, Lily Mae, Michael, Nellie and Shanna. The hopefuls must dance and sing their way onto the Glee set. Most of them haven’t had a lot of professional experience but each week the contestants learn the lyrics to songs, work on their vocal delivery and learn choreography! All are vying for the grand prize–a seven episode arc on Glee and they waste no time getting started. The mentors are Robert Ulrich, Zach Woodlee and Nikki Anders.
For the homework assignment, the cast must sing “I Hope I Get It” from the musical A Chorus Line. The guest star is Grant Gustin who played “Sebastian,” one of the Warbler’s on Glee. Grant picked Ali as the homework assignment winner. She got a one-on-one mentoring session with him.
It’s now time to shoot the always creative and highly anticipated music video. This week’s music video features the remaining contestants as grocery store clerks who dream of being superstars in the world of music. Shanna is Lady Gaga, Nellie is Britney Spears, Aylin is Madonna, Lily Mae is Cyndi Lauper, Michael is Elvis, Abraham is David Bowie, Blake is Boy George and Ali is Katy Perry.
As the artists dance down the food aisles, they sing along to their alter-ego anthem, the Pussycat Dolls’ hit “When I Grow Up.” Some of the costumes are hilarious! Lots of bright colors, sequins and of-course a cone shapped bustier, synonymous with Madonna’s image through the years. During the shoot, casting director Robert Ulrich and choreographer Zach Woodlee noticed that Nellie continued to struggle with her confidence and that Lily Mae acted more like herself then her character, Cyndi Lauper.
Unfortunately, the mentors selected Nellie, Lily Mae and Abraham to be in the bottom three. Nellie sang “I’m the Only One” by Melissa Ethridge; Abraham sang “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes and Adam Levine and Lily Mae sang “Someone Like You” by Adele.
As the competition dwindles down it has become more and more difficult for Ryan Murphy to decide who should go and who should stay. In the end, Nellie struggled with finding confidence; therefore she is not called back and her time on The Glee Project has come to an end.
