July 18, 2012 09:00 PM by Veronica Dudo

The final three chefs continue on their journey embarking on their most important trek yet on Around the World in 80 Plates. The quest for the ultimate victor on Bravo’s reality TV competition will be crowned in the United States. The contestants face their toughest critics in the finale, as the judges are a collection of chefs from the Los Angeles culinary community. Keep reading to find out which chef is crowned the winner!

This is a game that draws heavily not just on culinary skills but also cunning strategy. The winner will receive $150,000 and a brand new Infiniti JX Luxury Crossover. Celebrity chefs Curtis Stone and Cat Cora are the hosts who have taken viewers on an up close and personal tour of the world.

After arriving in Uruguay the remaining contestants–Steve Postal (aka “Nookie”), Liz Garrett and Avery Pursell–are give two hours to find their ingredients and make a meal for the hosts. Throughout the season, Nookie has repeated his mantra, “Go smarter not harder;” a thought that has not been embraced by his fellow competitors. Quickly putting together his meal to serve to the hosts he has time to kill in the kitchen and starts talking to Avery and Liz. In the end Curtis and Cora pick Avery’s dish as the best. Now, here comes the twist–Avery gets to choose between Liz and Nookie who she wants to compete against in the finale. Avery says that she doesn’t want to go up against a chef that will pull out shady moves to win so she picks Liz.

For their final cook-off, Liz and Avery must prepare a three course meal inspired by their trip around the world. Wolfgang Puck serves as the special guest chef in Los Angeles. The stakes are high, summed up best by Avery when she says, “It’s the most important meal of my life–it’s worth $150,000!”

Both Liz and Avery get to choose former contestants to help them with this task. Liz is assisted by Chaz and John while Jenna and Nick help Avery. The group of American diners prepare themselves for meals that will take them on a trip around the world. Some of the most respected chefs from the Los Angeles culinary community taste the dishes and vote on who they think prepared the best meal.

Hosts Curtis Stone and Cat Cora announce the winner. Curtis explains that the decision was spilt by only four votes! This has been the moment the chefs have been working towards during the competition. After cooking their final take-over, Avery Pursell is announced as the winner of Around the World in 80 Plates and will receive $150,000 and a brand new Infiniti JX Luxury Crossover. She is so excited and hugs her daughters while celebrating her big moment with her mom, aunt and the cast of season one!

I like Avery but I think she was being hypocritical. She chose Liz over Nookie because she”A she doesn’t want to go up against a chef that will pull out shady moves “..well, she used Nookie and his “shady” moves to get to the finale. She was just a COWARD and “hedged her chances” by choosing someone, who I love, and wish all the best, but even on a “great day” would not beat her.
I don’t know that I blame her..but I just wish she was honest and said..”Sorry Nookie, but I want to win.”

I don’t think Avery should have won, peroid. I thought Liz was better, she and Nookie’s work ethics are like night and day. I do agree with Avery’s choice to send Nookie home because Nookie has no work ethic much less passion and he would have been my last choice to win out of the final three. I think Avery wanted to actually have competetion and not the easy way so for that I commend her. But I was still seething when Liz didn’t win.
