It’s no secret that things have been difficult between Bethenny Frankel and her husband, Jason Hoppy during their marriage. As they say, the honeymoon is definitely over. But despite the constant divorce rumors and allegations of cheating, the Real Housewives of New York City alum says that she’s determined to make things work. Does B think that her Bravo reality show ruined her relationship? Keep reading to see what the Skinnygirl herself had to say.
If you ask Bethenny Frankel about her marriage to husband Jason Hoppy, you’re going to get a very “Frankel” answer; open, honest, and to the point. No sugar-coating at all.
“I want to say it’s been amazing, but it hasn’t been that way at all,” the margarita maven tells People in a new interview. “Our relationship has definitely been tested. It doesn’t come easy for us. Sometimes you feel like, ‘Oh God, are we going to make it?’”
Admitting that they’ve “both been scared” that things may end and that “the second year of marriage was not easy,” Frankel remains determined to have her happily ever after…with Jason.
“We hit bottom…[but] we came out of the other side,” says B. “I’ve often thought if I didn’t make my marriage work, I would have failed at my one true shot at happiness.”
Though fans got an inside look at their marital woes on the last season of her spin-off, Bethenny Ever After, the newbie daytime host insists that letting the cameras into their lives wasn’t part of the problem, telling the magazine that she “can’t blame reality TV” for her troubled relationship.
“We always had the struggle to accept one another, wanting the other person to be somebody they are not,” the Skinnygirl explains. “Neither of us ever backs down, so every slight disagreement can become a full-scale war. Sometimes our disputes feel like a competitive sport.”
But in the spirit of competitiveness, Frankel’s not one to throw in the towel, and at the end of the day, her marriage is her priority — yes, even over her multi-million dollar empire.
“My business doesn’t keep me warm at night,” says Bethenny. “I want to be with Jason. We are going to make this work. No matter what.”
