MasterChef Recap: Gordon Ramsay Whittles It Down

July 23, 2012 10:34 PM by Gina Hall

Some of the MasterChef castoffs are back tonight to get another chance at an apron and the admiration of  Gordon Ramsay. The catch? The current contestants get to choose. Will they choose a fan favorite or will the best man or woman win? Let’s see it all go down on tonight’s MasterChef!

The home cooks of MasterChef meet up with the judges. None of them will be cooking this evening and one of the last eight home cooks including Josh, Stacey, Tali, Tanya, Cowboy Mike, Scott, Anna and Ryan, will win an apron and get back into the competition. Gordon Ramsay and the judges allow the returning home cooks the chance to create their own Mystery Box. Ryan picks portabella mushrooms. Scott goes with pork chop. Anna chooses celery. Cowboy Mike likes the condensed milk. Tanya chooses white wine vinegar. Tali goes with the chocolate buttons. Josh wants the pomegranate. Stacey sides with the heavy cream. Two of the cooks ultimately face each other in the Elimination Test to get a spot back.

When times run out, Josh is up with Chocolate Mousse with Pomegranate Sauce and Candied Lemon Peel. Graham says it tastes amazing and Chef Ramsay says it’s delicious. Anna made Pan-Seared Pork Chop with Shaved Celery and Pomegranate Salad. Chef Ramsay says it looks beautiful.

Tali made Chocolate Pot de Crème with Pomegranate Syrup and Celery Foam. Joe says it’s very heavy. Scott made Stuffed Pork Chop with Pickled Celery and Pomegranate Sauce. Chef Ramsay says it’s undercooked, but the flavor is okay. Tanya made Grilled Pork Chop with Crispy Celery and Mushroom Ragu. Graham says the pork is really good. Stacey made Mushroom Ravioli with Celery Cream and Roasted Pork Chop. Chef Ramsay says she has a hand on the apron. Cowboy Mike made Chocolate Flan with Lemon Zest and Sugar Glass. Chef Ramsay says its very good. Ryan made Pan-Seared Pork Chop with Mushroom Ragu and Pomegranate Gastrique. Chef Ramsay says it’s one of the best dishes Ryan has cooked.

The judges ask Tanya, Tali, Anna and Scott to step up. They’re all going home. Cowboy Mike and Ryan step forward. Ryan is staying. Stacey and Josh are up. Josh is staying.

Their elimination challenge involves them creating a fruit tart. The judges tonight will be the final six home cooks. The “judges” will taste a slice of their tart, but blindfolded so it’s a fair vote. Ryan makes a good looking crust in whereas Josh’s is breaking apart. Ryan’s tart looks pretty good. But how will Josh’s taste? Let’s see how it goes down.

The judges vote and and someone comes in with a 6-0 win. It’s Josh! So Josh will be back on the show tomorrow with the other home cooks. Stay tuned to see how he gets integrated back into the show and if he’ll even survive one more challenge!
