Mariah Carey Looking Forward to “Rewarding” New Gig on ‘American Idol’

July 24, 2012 06:42 AM by Shayla Perry

While not everyone’s happy about the addition of Mariah Carey to the American Idol judges’ panel, the Grammy-award winning diva superstar is thrilled to be joining the FOX reality show, and ready to “give back.” (We guess anything under $20 million is considered a charity case.) But less than 24 hours after the big announcement, is Mariah already proving all of the haters right?

On Monday morning, FOX announced that Mariah Carey would be joining Randy Jackson on the judges’ panel of American Idol, leaving just one remaining position to be filled.

By Monday afternoon, Carey already had us rolling our eyes.

“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back to American Idol,” Mariah said in a statement. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month,” she added. “I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”

Let’s see…

A no-show for the big announcement from FOX and already plugging her new single on Day 1? Is this what fans of Idol have to look forward to with Mariah Carey on board?

We know that the network execs were anxious to take the news public, so we’re sure that MC really did want to be at the TCAs in person instead of phoning it in. But it’s definitely not a good way to get things started.

At least she has until January to get it right!

Tell us RTVM: Are you excited about Mariah Carey joining American Idol, or would you have preferred someone else on the judges’ panel?
