The Glee Project Recap: Tenacity Takes A Toll On The Contenders

July 24, 2012 09:14 PM by Veronica Dudo

It’s time to start having flash backs of gym class from high school thanks to tonight’s episode of The Glee Project. Determination is taken to a whole new level as the remaining contestants must get tough and show their tenacity on the Oxygen reality TV series. Glee’s Amber Riley guest stars on the competition. For their music video the competitors must nail their parts in one consecutive take! Can they do it? If so how many takes will they do before getting it right? Keep reading to find out!

While the contestants on The Glee Project are Glee fans, they’re also aspiring singers hoping to get their big break and the chance to be on their favorite TV show.

The seven remaining contestants are Abraham, Ali, Aylin, Blake, Lily Mae, Michael and Shanna. The hopefuls must dance and sing their way onto the Glee set. Most of them haven’t had a lot of professional experience but each week the contestants must learn the lyrics to songs, work on their vocal delivery and learn choreography!

All are vying for the grand prize–a seven episode arc on Glee and they waste no time getting started. The mentors are Robert Ulrich, Zach Woodlee and Nikki Anders.

For the homework assignment, the cast must sing “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child. The guest star is Amber Riley who played “Mercedes” on FOX’s Glee. After giving their best homework assignment performance yet, Amber Riley picks Ali as the homework assignment winner. She gets a one-on-one mentoring session with Amber Riley.

It’s now time to shoot the always creative and highly anticipated music video. This week’s music video is a first on the history of The Glee Project. The remaining contestants sing “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor performing one long continuous shot set in a school gymnasium. Each contestant has their own part and one-by one they must do it–if one person messes up they all must start back at the beginning! After hours of trying to complete the video paired with competitors who are crying, frustrated, throwing up, injured and struggling with their parts the producers finally have one correct continuous shot after 34 takes!

Unfortunately, the mentors selected Michael, Abraham and Lily Mae to be in the bottom three. Michael sings “Brick” by Ben Folds Five, Abraham sings “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson and Lily Mae sings “I’m the Greatest Star” by Barbra Streisand. In a last ditch effort, Abraham walks back out on stage to tell Ryan Murphy he is not leaving until he wins or gets a part on Glee!

As the competition dwindles down it has become more and more difficult for Ryan Murphy to decide who should go and who should stay–he says that he could put all three on Glee tomorrow. In the end, Abraham is not called back and his time on The Glee Project has come to an end.

i love Michael, but i thought it would be his week to go home until Abraham ran back in to talk to the Ryan at the end. he totally shot himself in the foot as he has on more than one occasion so far. i hope he finds a way to be more comfortable in his own skin. “Man in the Mirror” was a perfect last chance performance song for him. Lily keeps fighting to stay in, but I’m not sure she’s the ultimate winner. we shall see.. great recap! i tweeted it as well. :)
