This season of Top Chef Masters features 12 award winning chefs all battling it out in the kitchen to be crowned the Top Chef Master. The rotating judges include Krista Simmons, Francis Lam, Ruth Reichl and James Oseland.
Host, Curtis Stone announces that for their Quickfire Challenge, the chefs must create a dish from two random ingredients for three world class card dealers who aren’t food experts but they are everyday people who make or break their restaurants. The card dealers choose Chris and Patricia’s steak and catfish dish as the best one therefore their charities will split the prize: $10,000.
For the Elimination Challenge the chefs will take on the popular: buffet for 200 Las Vegas performers. Split in two teams the chefs divy up who will prepare what dish. Can these “bosses” all get along? Time will tell.
After running through the grocery store, the chefs get their ingredients. The Red Team will be cooking Mexican food for their buffet while the Blue Team will be cooking Indian fare. On day one the drama already begins when Missy slices her finger while cutting zucchini! She pleads to continue cooking but a paramedic tells her it’s a deep wound that will need medical attention. At the hospital she is given more bad news when the doctor tells her she needs surgery and the healing time will be a couple of months. Missy’s team takes over her dish.
It’s show time as the chefs debut their buffets to Las Vegas performers. Krista, Ruth and James join Curtis for the ultimate test–a taste test of-course!
At the judges table, Missy says that she will not be able to continue in the competition. Curtis says that Missy will have a guaranteed spot on the next Top Chef Maters is she so desires and that a donation will be made in Missy’s honor. The Red Team wins this week’s challenge and the winning chef is Chris who gets $16,000 for his charity–the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
After deliberating, the food critics decide to eliminate Sue Torres. Curtis says a donation will also be made to her charity.
