The “American Idol” producers are still on the hunt for judges. After snagging Mariah Carey for the panel, they went to country star Toby Keith who reportedly turned them down. Does the crooner think he’s too good for the Idol crowd?
“American Idol” is still the king of the talent competitions and, because of that, is trying to woo some of the music industries most popular entertainers. One area where the show has been lacking is in wooing the country music crowd, even though Southern viewers are big supporters and many Idol contestants go on to find country music fame.
So it was no surprise that producers reached out to Toby Keith for that country twang. However, the superstar didn’t want to commit half of his year to the show, telling the “Inland Empire Weekly” that he’d rather work on his music than on the show. Toby had recently hosted the CMT Music Awards and his surly demeanor might have made for a Simon Cowell-esqe presence on the panel.
Apparently the producers are still keen on country, though, and will next set their sights on Brad Paisley. He recently did a duet with Idol winner Carrie Underwood and might be eager for the Idol audience.
There’s still a contingent that’s hoping for Charlie Sheen to bring his own brand of crazy to American Idol and Adam Lambert still isn’t out of the running either. Who are you hoping gets the nod? Someone a little bit country or a little bit crazy? Or are they one and the same?
