Move over Simon Cowell! Apparently, Mariah Carey is going to be the Queen of Mean on American Idol when she joins the judges’ panel of the FOX reality show in January. And this is coming from someone who knows the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter pretty well…her husband – America’s Got Talent host, Nick Cannon. More after the jump.
Mariah Carey isn’t taking her new job on American Idol lightly. (We’d hope not, for a reported $18 million a year.)
Already looking forward to a “fun and rewarding” experience, discovering new talent on the FOX reality show, MC won’t be spending all of her time plugging her new album; some, but not all.
“She’s very serious about music and singing. She’ll probably be the toughest judge that’s ever been on [the] show,” Cannon told Access Hollywood on Wednesday (July 25).
“She’s going to be amazing,” Nick gushed. “People don’t know my wife’s sense of humor. They’re about to get the whole Mariah Carey, raw and uncut! And see the woman that I fell in love with.”
But what about the diva behavior fans of the show are expecting to see from Miss Mariah? Well, Nick doesn’t deny that there could be a little of that as well; especially when it comes to showing up to work on time for the live broadcasts.
“Nah, that ain’t happening,” he joked. “It’s Mariah Carey time!”
Hmm… That might actually be interesting. It would definitely give Ryan Seacrest the chance to really earn his millions by stalling as much as he can while we wait for Mariah to grace us with her presence.
If they managed to get Jennifer Lopez there on time, she shouldn’t be too much of a problem, right?
What do you think RTVM: Will Mariah Carey be the “tough judge” on American Idol, or will she have a hard time letting people go, just like JLo did during her first season? Could Carey possibly be tougher than Simon Cowell? Sound off in the Comments section below.
