It’s been weeks since Steven Tyler quit American Idol along with Jennifer Lopez, and while he originally claimed it was to spend more time on Aerosmith, the rocker is now admitting to the pressure behind the scenes. In fact, Tyler claims that he was not a fan of being pressured to be exactly like Simon Cowell! More after the jump…
You knew the truth would come out eventually, and while Steven Tyler originally claimed that he departed as a judge from American Idol to work harder on his band Aerosmith, he is now changing his tune a bit. What was more important than his band back when he took the gig? That’s a no brainer! In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Tyler admitted that money was a motive for him to do the show: ” It was a great job, I sat next to J.Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life,” adding: “It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest… not my cup of tea.”
But Steven Tyler may have a bigger reason why Idol turned out to be not all fun and games – Simon Cowell! That’s right, Tyler also revealed that the show wanted him to be more like Simon Cowell, and he did not like the pressure. Steven Tyler explained: “The show’s about kids and what you do to nurture their talent. They wanted me to take the p**s out of the kids and I don’t have that in me. That’s not what I’m about. That’s more about that other guy (referring to Simon Cowell). Not me.”
Steven Tyler then went on to reveal that American Idol was not as fun as it appeared, but it was more hard work than anything. No wonder he decided not to return. That makes us wonder – if they are looking for a Simon Cowell wannabe, who could possibly be the right judge?
Who do you think would be a tough judge on American Idol? For some reason, we just can’t see Mariah Carey as the Simon Cowell type – what about you? Comment and share your thoughts with us below!
