Mariah Carey’s set to take JLo’s place on American Idol, but there’s still an open pot on the judging panel in the wake of Steven Tyler’s departure. And if Idol alum Kimberley Locke has anything to say about it, that spot will be reserved for her! Locke is not the first alum to express interest in a return to American Idol; Adam Lambert has been campaigning for a judging position for awhile now. Read on for the scoop!
Competing on American Idol is great, but according to Adam Lambert and Kimberley Locke, it doesn’t hold a candle to judging young hopefuls. Locke recently told the Associated Press that she would love to return to Idol as a judge. “I would love to sit in that chair and, you know, give some advice from the contestant’s standpoint because I’ve been on that stage and I know what it’s like.”
Locke added that she wouldn’t be a nicey-nice judge like JLo and Paula Abdul. “When you’re a contestant on that show you do need that hard truth sometimes.” That doesn’t mean that Locke would be mean just for the sake of it. She think she’d fall somewhere in the middle on the Simon-Paula spectrum. “I’m not quite as nice as Paula. Paula’s super, supernice but I don’t think I’m quite as mean as Simon either.”
We’re not sure that Kimberley Locke would make the greatest judge. She has a good voice, yes, but her industry experience comes up short. Like many alum, her career so far has been less than stellar. Do you disagree with our conclusion? Sound off in the comments section below!
