NBC Fires Back At Sharon And Jack Osbourne Over Discrimination Accusation

August 07, 2012 12:00 PM by Lisa Princ

Sharon Osbourne announced yesterday that she would not be returning next season to America’s Got Talent, alleging that NBC was discriminating against her son Jack, who was recently diagnosed with MS. The network, however, has come out with guns blazing to fire back at Sharon and Jack Osbourne, and offering an explanation to all.

We have to admit that we saw this one coming a mile away! After Sharon Osbourne accused NBC of discriminating against her son, Jack Osbourne due to his MS diagnosis, NBC has decided to issue some statements of their own in effort to clear the air.

Claiming that Sharon Osbourne has blown the whole thing out of proportion, NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt issued the following statement: “We hold medical information in strict confidence and therefore cannot comment specifically about Jack, but as a company that cares deeply about the health and safety of everyone on our shows — especially one like ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ that requires dangerous water stunts, strenuous physical activity, and uses live ammunition — we required all potential participants to undergo medical vetting to ensure that they could safely participate.”

So, it appears that Sharon was correct – to a point. Basically, NBC feels that due to Jack’s medical condition, he would not make for a good participant on the upcoming series, Stars Earn Stripes. However, while Greenblatt admits that was the reason for not asking Jack to do the show, he also claims that the network tried to keep Jack aboard: “Although we did not ask Jack to participate in the competition, we were able to offer him two substantial alternative roles on the show, both of which he declined. This network does not discriminate on any basis.”

What do you think of the entire situation? Was Sharon Osbourne correct in stepping down from America’s Got Talent due to the issue with her son and NBC? Comment and sound off below!
