Her love may not cost a thing (actually, if you ask Casper Smart, it pays pretty well), but if you mess with Jennifer Lopez, be prepared to pony up! Months after an ex-employee filed a lawsuit against her and her production company, FOX‘s former American Idol judge is fighting back with a suit of her own, claiming that Hakom Manoukian tried to extort her. How much was he trying to get?
Earlier this year, Hakom Manoukian sued Jennifer Lopez, her manager, Benny Medina, and her production company, Nuyorican Productions, alleging that he was “chastised and humiliated” while working for the former Idol judge, and was later wrongfully terminated.
In court documents, Manoukian, stated that he was promised a yearly salary of $75,000 in addition to “production pay,” which should have worked out to a $200,000 bonus…$200,000 that he says he never received.
He also accused JLo and her “peeps” of deceit, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, constructive fraud, failure to provide meal periods, and more; a LOT more.
Apparently, that didn’t work out, because TMZ is now reporting that Jennifer is suing Manoukian for extortion.
What’s her side of the story?
In her counter-suit, Lopez claims that Hakom wanted control of her entire security team; and of course, a raise for the new position. When he was turned down, JLo says that he threatened to leak embarrassing, confidential info to the press.
He also allegedly demanded $2.8 million, telling Jennifer that if she didn’t pay, he’d take the information he had to the authorities and have her criminally prosecuted.
Her response? A suit in the amount of $20 million!
