Sesame Street may be a kid’s show, but adults can find entertaining tidbits here and there as well. Often, these come in the form of parodies, usually of well known shows or celebrities. Sesame Street’s latest target? NBC’s The Voice. Who knew that Carson Daly, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green could all look so good as muppets?
As much as we love The Voice, we have to admit that it is ten times better when performed muppet-style. Sesame Street’s new parody of the popular reality competition is set to air this fall, but PBS has done fans a huge favor by providing a juicy sneak peek of the hilarious spoof.
In the brief clip, a muppet version of Carson Daly welcomes viewers to The Voice, ”a singing competition like no other” while quick glimpses of judges Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green (plus his feline friend Purrfect) play in the background. But where’s fourth judge and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine? No comment yet from Sesame Street as to the whereabouts of muppet Adam.
Continuing his introduction, Muppet Carson echoes our sentiments as he sarcastically gushes, “Finally, a singing competition that’s entirely about your voice. No distractions and no cheap gimmicks.” The judges agree and proceed to press their gigantic red buttons and rotate their overly-cushy chairs. Sound familiar?
Contestant number one fools the judges by cleverly using a different part of his body to make noise: his feet! The judges love it, but Carson protests that this goes against the rules of the show. Clueless as usual, muppet Cee Lo is shocked to learn that “you can make sound with other parts of your body?”
Sesame Street’s spoof of The Voice just might be more entertaining than the reality competition itself. Maybe NBC should replace its judges with muppets and call it a day!
